THE ANOINTING OF GOD – PSALM 89:20-23
20 I have
found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him. 21 My hand will
sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him. 22 No enemy will subject him to
tribute; no wicked man will oppress him. 23 I will crush his foes before him
and strike down his adversaries. NIV
WHAT THE ANOINTING OF GOD IS?
a. The anointing is God’s “seal of approval”
John 6:27 Do not work for food that spoils, but
for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. On
him God the Father has placed his seal of approval." In this text Luke
4:18 we see what Jesus was talking about "The Spirit of the
Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the
poor. NIV
b. The anointing is the “finger of God.”
Luke
11:20 But if I drive
out demons by the finger of God, then the kingdom of God has come to
you. NIV
The
anointing is applicable in every aspect of your life. You need the anointing in every
aspect of your life; the anointing is not only spiritual but also physical.
Sometimes we
think that only pastors needs to be anointed but is not. When you get a new
job, you need anointing. When you got married, you need anointing. When you
even get a new car, a new house, a new baby, whatever you received you need the
anointing.
The
three levels of anointing
1. 1 Samuel 16: 12,13 – “the starter anointing”
12 So he
sent and had him brought in. He was ruddy, with a fine appearance and handsome
features. Then the LORD said, "Rise and anoint him; he is the one."
13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his
brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon
David in power. Samuel then went to Ramah.
This is the
first anointing David received in his life. This anointing made David aware of
what was in front of him.
2. 2 Samuel 2:4 - “the pusher anointing”
4 Then the
men of Judah came to Hebron and there they anointed David king over the house
of Judah.
This is the
second type of anointing David received in his life, and is not the same as the
first one. This level of anointing pushes him to possess his right. David was
already declared king over Israel but he was not push in that position. The
anointing pushes him to that level. This level of anointing did not allow David
to rule over all Israel but part.
3. 2 Samuel 5:3-7 “the taker anointing”
3 So all the
elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant
with them [there] before the Lord, and they anointed [him] king over Israel. 4
David was thirty years old when he began his forty-year reign. 5 In Hebron he
reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned
thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah. 6 And the king and his men went
to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who said to
David, You shall not enter here, for the blind and the lame will prevent you; they
thought, David cannot come in here. 7 Nevertheless, David took
the stronghold of Zion, that is, the City of David. AMP
The taker
anointing was the last and highest level of anointing upon David’s life. This
level of anointing allows you to take what is yours. With this level of
anointing you can take every stronghold of your enemy.
The taker
anointing was what came upon Elijah to run ahead of the king Ahab when the king
was on his chariot.
WHAT THE ANOINTING OF GOD BRINGS
1.
The anointing breaks every yoke. Is. 10:27

them; 10 When they arrived at Gibeah, a procession of prophets met him; the
Spirit of God came upon him in power, and he joined in their prophesying. 11

oil; my cup overflows.
