THE GOD OF MIRACLE – LUKE 17:11-18
“As He went on His way to Jerusalem,
it occurred that [Jesus] was passing [along the border] between Samaria and
Galilee. 12 And as He was going into one village, He was met by ten lepers, who
stood at a distance. 13 And they raised up their voices and called, Jesus,
Master, take pity and have mercy on us! 14 And when He saw them, He said to
them, Go [at once] and show yourselves to the priests. And as they went, they
were cured and made clean. [Lev 14:2-32.]
15 Then one of them, upon seeing that he was cured, turned back,
recognizing and thanking and praising God with a loud voice; 16 And he fell
prostrate at Jesus' feet, thanking Him [over and over]. And he was a Samaritan.
17 Then Jesus asked, Were not [all] ten cleansed? Where are the nine? 18 Was
there no one found to return and to recognize and give thanks and praise to God
except this alien?” AMP
What is a Miracle?
a. Act of God – an event that appears to
be contrary to the laws of nature.
b. Amazing events – an event or action
that is amazing, extraordinary, or unexpected.
Ø “ten lepers”
Leviticus
13:45-46
“And the
leper's clothes shall be rent, and the hair of his head shall hang loose,
and he shall cover his upper lip and cry, Unclean, unclean! 46 He shall
remain unclean as long as the disease is in him; he is unclean; he shall live
alone [and] his dwelling shall be outside the camp. AMP
Ø “who stood at a distance”
Because they
were unclean and not allow coming near to people, that barrier was not a
barrier to them from stopping them receive their miracle. Though they were shut
up, confined, limited none of them was able to hold them from shouting to the
Lord. The people shouted at blind Bartimus to keep quite but the Bible says he
shouted the more. They just shouted from a distance, thus, the only thing they
need is for Christ to hear them. The centurion said, you just speak and I
believe it will be done. The truth is that in the spiritual realms there is no
distance or space.
Ø “they raised up their voices”
For the God of miracle to work in your life you need to raise your voice
to Him. Psalm 34:17 “The righteous cry
out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. NIV
They address Christ as;
a. Jesus – to address Him as Jesus means to
acknowledge him as your savior and He came save us from every threat of the
devil. How do you see him, when you see Christ as a healer he will heal you,
when you see Him as redeemer He will redeem you.
b. Master – when they
called Jesus master they were trying to say;
1.
You are the one in authority
2.
You are the one in control
3.
You are highly skilled
4.
You are high in level
5.
You are the leader
6.
You can make all things submit to you
Ø “Take pity and have mercy on us!”
That was a very simple prayer but powerful. Sometimes we think of praying
a powerful prayer for God to answer us. You do not need a powerful prayer to be
answered but you only need a powerful God. The prayed a very simple touching
heartfelt prayer. The only thing that will move God to answer your prayers if
FAITH. Faith is the only language God understands and the only language He
speaks.
The prayer was “Lord Have Mercy”, shout Mercy three times.
Let me differentiate between “Grace” and “Mercy” for you.
Grace in a simple definition is God giving us what we do not deserve
while Mercy is God withholding what we deserved from us. We were not worthy of
healing but Grace has giving us healing, we were not worthy of blessings and
glory but Grace interceded for us. We were worthy of sickness and disease but
Mercy said no, we were worthy of shame and death but Mercy cry out no Lord. I
pray that Grace and Mercy will intercede on your behalf in the name of Jesus,
receive it now.
The next important thing we need to take note was that, they ask not in
particular to be cured of their leprosy but Lord have Mercy. They saw that
Mercy was enough for them, for in the Mercies of the Lord there is healing and
deliverance. We need to stop praying some prayers and start crying for the
mercies of the Lord, because the mercies of the Lord never fail.
Ø “And when He saw them”
They were afar off but Jesus located them, 2 Chronicles 16:9 “The
eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose
hearts are fully committed to him.” Mephibosheth was hidden because of
his condition but the Lord saw him, this month Jesus will locate you no matter
where you are. The eyes of the Lord will locate you wherever you are. Mary was
a poor woman living in a small village but the eyes on the Lord saw her afar
off and located her, this year you will be re-located in the name of Jesus.
Ø “He said to them, Go”
Jesus did not called them to come near Him but He just spoke,
because Christ God of miracle He just gave a command “Go”, I see God commanding
very leper in your life to go. God created the Heaven and the Earth by just
speaking, shout Lord I need just a word in my life, I need just a word in my
finances, you need just a word from the Lord to bring the dry bones back to
life. The Lord will not keep mute but He will speak, He will not keep shut but
He will give a command but concerning your problem in Jesus name.
Ø “And as they went, they were cured
and made clean”
God needs your obedience to work. It takes obedience to receive the
promise of God. Jesus did not pray for them, he did not touch them but Just
told them go and show yourself to the priest. Before you enter into the temple,
you must be healed and when Jesus told them go and show yourself they were not
healed but when they make the move, on their way the Lord performed a miracle.
When Naaman was asked by Elijah to go and wash himself in the Jordan River, he
was furious but when he obeyed the words of the prophet, he was restored.
Obedience is the first step in receiving a miracle from the Lord.
Those that expect Christ's miracle must take them in his way and method.
Some of us we have prescribe for God the method of our miracle but God chose a
way that pleases Him. We should not be like Naaman who, when he came to God has
his own procedure.
Ø “turned back, recognizing and
thanking and praising God”
Some of us we worry ourselves with customs and traditions of men rather
than having fellowship with the true miracle working God. We spent a lot of
time on the things that are non-important. Someone will ask, but it was Jesus
who asked them to go and show themselves to the priest? Yes this is true but He
was expecting them to put first thing first and also setting their priorities
right.
Instead of going forward to the priest, to be by him declared clean, and
so discharged from his confinement, which was all that the rest aimed at, he
turned back towards him who was the Author of his cure, whom he wished to have
the glory of it, before he received the benefit of it.
